Two options are available when it comes to the Emberlit stove. You have a stainless steel version weighing in at approx 11.3 oz., or for you avid backpackers searching for the lightest possible gear they offer a titanium Emberlit stove weighing in at less than 6 oz. The disassembled stove is a whopping 1/8“thick and lighter than my iphone. Whether you choose the stainless steel option or the titanium option you will get a lifetime guarantee which is pretty much unheard of in this day and age.
The construction of the stove is the first thing you will notice. It is made up of three identical side walls. First, these three matching side walls hook together. Then insert the base plate by aligning the three tabs into each of the side walls. Lastly, hook the front side (fuel port) to the side walls and give it a little twist to insure the last corner hooks in place and “wa-lah” you are ready to go. Like most guys, I took the stove out of its packaging and put it together without looking at the assembly instructions. This assembly experience possibly being one of the rare times that I didn’t have to secretly take a peek at the instructions when nobody was looking. In short, the assembly is so SIMPLE I had it put together in less than 30 seconds.
The Emberlit stove comes with a set of crossbar pot adapters that adds to its strength and allows you to set smaller cooking containers on it without the worry of the container falling into the fire. The Emberlit stove is SOLID. By solid I mean I had no problem putting my iron skillet or Dutch oven on it. It is just a matter of balance really.
Because of how incomplex the Emberlit stove is constructed I believe it to be a really SOUND product that is here to stay. I have found that the simpler something is, the better it is. Emberlit is basic but beautiful.
I was quickly impressed with the design of the Emberlit stove. The first thing that I commented on is how it funnels the heat out the top. The Emberlit is fueled by twigs and branches that Mother Nature provides. You don’t have to carry any fuel with you, once again cutting down on the weight you are humping around on your back. The flame is candle like which aids in placing the heat just where you want it which is under your food. There is very little smoke, which surprised me. The stove burned hot and clean due the superb ventilation. It was a very efficient burn and surprisingly took way less fuel than I imagined it would. The nice thing was that the fuller I kept the front side fuel port the better it worked. I didn’t have to worry about moving my cooking vessels to feed the fuel. It was a constant temperature due to the fact that I didn’t have to take my cooking vessel off the stove to add fuel to the fire like other stoves of this type. The intention of the Emberlit stove is spot on.
The Emberlit stove is great for the outdoor enthusiast. It’s simply a must have. I think the applications for this little stove go beyond just the backpacker or camper. It is an essential tool for every home that wants to be prepared for whatever the future holds. This would be a great addition to your food storage, 72 hour kit, or survival pack.
Emberlit stove is a free fuel, simple and easy to use stove that makes life a little easier. I’m so impressed I am going to make this my main backpacking stove. I give this high marks all the way around!
