Bridal Veil Falls is the crown jewel of scenic Provo Canyon. The 607-foot waterfall, which looks like a bride’s cascading wedding veil, is free-flowing spring through fall, but frozen during winter months. Because the falls are easily accessible from a parking lot to a paved trail, it’s worth stopping to view this majestic display of nature any time of year.
During the summer, novices can scour the rocks or take a zig-zagged dirt trail to the first cascade, then cool off by dipping their toes in the shallow wading pools at the bottom.
In colder times of year, the falls take on a whole different look. About once every three years, the falls become so densely iced over that experienced winter-enthusiasts can ice climb it with the right gear. Even if you don’t climb the frozen falls yourself, it’s fascinating to watch from below.
Bridal Veil Falls is visible from the paved Provo River Parkway Trail, which runs parallel to the Provo River. It is heavily shaded and perfect for a walk with family members of all ages and abilities. Enjoy a meal al-fresco at one of many picnic tables, BBQ grills, or grassy picnic spots along the trail.
One thing to note is that you should always beware of fast-moving recreationists, as this trail is a popular spot for both cyclists and runners. Each year, there are injuries resulting from collisions on the trail.
If you’d like to experience Bridal Veil Falls for yourself, set your coordinates for Provo Canyon.
Bridal Veil Park is located approx 2 1/2 miles up Provo Canyon. From the Bridal Veil parking area, access the Provo River Parkway Trail for a short walk to the base of the falls.
From Salt Lake City take I-15 South to the 800 North Orem Exit 273. After exiting I-15 travel east for approx 4 miles to the base of Provo Canyon.
