Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah and a hub for outdoor activities. Within minutes of Utah's most populated metropolitan area you will find pristine hiking trails, world class ski resorts, fishing, historical sites, fine dining, shopping and much more. The Salt Lake International Airport is the largest airport in the state and centrally located within minutes of downtown Salt Lake. If the bustling city is not your thing the suburbs of downtown Salt Lake City offers a little slower paced atmosphere, but still puts you in the heart of outdoor recreational opportunities.
To the east of Salt Lake City is the beautiful Wasatch Mountain Range. The Salt Lake Valley portion of the Wasatch Range provides three canyons for outdoor recreational activities and is home to four world class ski resorts. Big Cottonwood Canyon is located only 20 minutes from Salt Lake City and is home to the Solitude and Brighton Ski Resorts. This 15-mile long canyon offers excellent hiking, biking, rock climbing, picnicking, camping and fishing opportunities.
Little Cottonwood Canyon is located just one canyon south from Big Cottonwood. This towering granite canyon is home to the world class Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. Snowbird is Utah’s only resort with an aerial tram that carries visitors to the top of Hidden Peak at 11,000 feet above sea level. One mile further is the Alta Ski and Summer Resort Utah’s ski only resort. The Albion Basin is very popular for hiking and mountain biking during the summer season.
Millcreek Canyon is a local’s favorite place to hike, bike, cross country ski, snowshoe or take the dogs for a walk on a sunny afternoon. The canyon offers several picnic sites and backcountry camping opportunities.
To the west of Salt Lake City is the Oquirrh Mountain Range. This range is home to Utah’s largest open pit copper mine; Kennecott Copper.
