Located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon is the beautiful Silver Lake. The lake is encompassed by a boardwalk making it accessible to the young, old and those with disabilities. The boardwalk is less than a mile long and offers benches, picnic tables and a dock area for fishing. The lake is a popular hiking destination in the spring, summer and fall. In the winter months the lake is covered in feet of snow and becomes part of the Solitude Nordic Center system of cross-country ski trails.
The lake is stocked with trout each year. On our visit we couldn't help but to notice a few fisherman catching several fish. Being curious, we made our way to the fishing dock and introduced ourselves. The friendly fisherman told us that spinners, and Powerbait seem to work the best. They shared their experiences and told us that Silver Lake is a great location to bring the kids to hook into the planter rainbows. After allowing us to take a few photos and some video we continued to explore the rest of the lake. Silver Lake is a great location to get out of the valley, view the beautiful scenery and possibly the Moose that frequent the lake. Bring your whole family catch of few trout, or enjoy a stroll around the lake. In the warmer months be sure to bring your bug repellent!
Driving Directions:
Silver lake is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon. After driving approximately 14.2 miles up the canyon you will come to a one way loop that enters the Brighton Ski Resort Parking Lot.
The trailhead parking is located on the right. The trailhead offers restrooms, trail information, and the Silver Lake information center. The Silver Lake trailhead is the beginning of several popular hikes in the area.
