Mineral Mountains Utah - The Rock Corral Recreation Area is located on the west side of the Mineral Mountain Range. Towering from the desert floor are spectacular granite peaks and enormous standing rocks with Granite Peak being the most notable feature in the area. Granite Peak rises 9,771 feet above sea level and has several times been proposed to be set aside as a wilderness area.
The Mineral Mountains, located in Beaver County, make up the largest exposed plutonic body in Utah. Rock compositions range from quartz monzonite in the northern half of the pluton to granite around Rock Corral Canyon in the south.
The Cove Fort Historical Site is located 2 miles south of Exit 135 off I-15 and one mile north of Exit 1 off I-70. The fort was built in 1867 at the current site selected by Brigham Young because of the proximity between Fillmore and Beaver.
Located at the base of the San Francisco Mountains is the remnants of the Frisco mining town. Born in 1875 after the discovery of pure Silver, the Frisco mining town sprang up in a matter of weeks and became the west’s most toughest mining camp. Murders were a daily occurrence, and history claims that an average of 12 men per night were killed.
The museum was established by the Utah Legislature in 1985 to preserve Clear Creek Canyon's treasury of rock art and archaeological sites. In November 1983, during construction of Interstate 70 through Clear Creek Canyon, the largest known Fremont village was discovered.
The Mineral Mountains are located to the West of Beaver. This mountain range is one of the most mineralized in the state which makes this area a rockhounder's paradise. Several areas located throughout the range offer the collection of the following minerals, Garnet, Amethyst, Obsidian, Blue Beryl and many more.
