Utah's oldest existing governmental building is the Territorial Statehouse in Fillmore. In anticipation of Utah's statehood, Brigham Young directed construction of the building as the state's capitol.
Located west of the small town of Meadow Utah is Tabernacle Hill. Thousands of years ago this old volcano erupted leaving behind miles of lava fields, craters and lava tubes. These lava fields are said to be approx 10,000 to 24,000 years old and formed while Lake Bonneville was receding.
Located just southeast of Delta and northwest of Fillmore, Utah you will find a very unique formation called the Lace Curtain. This rock formation is on the north slope of Pahvant Butte, which is an old extinct volcano. The curtain was said to have been formed by erosion from Lake Bonneville some 15,000 years ago. As the waves pounded the north side of Pahvant Butte, it eroded the wall, exposing the “cemented volcanic deposits”, leaving behind what appears to be a wall of melted wax.
The Cove Fort Historical Site is located 2 miles south of Exit 135 off I-15 and one mile north of Exit 1 off I-70. The fort was built in 1867 at the current site selected by Brigham Young because of the proximity between Fillmore and Beaver.
Located just 4 miles south of Fillmore, Utah is the quiet little town of Meadow. Since most of us have traveled south on I-15 and stopped to fill up at least once in Fillmore, it was amazing to find this natural treasure unoccupied. Meadow Hot Spring is located just west of the town of Meadow, in an open field.
