Mill Hollow Reservoir is located in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This man-made reservoir sits at an elevation of 8,843 feet above sea level. Mill Hollow Reservoir is an artificial stabilized lake maintained by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to provide angling opportunities for Utahns. The reservoir is stocked regularly with Rainbow and Tiger Trout. Back in 2007 the reservoir was drained so repairs could be made on the dam. In 2009 the reservoir was reopened and stocked with catchable size trout. Since its re-opening I have been wanting to visit Mill Hollow and this summer I finally got my chance.
Mill Hollow has a special place in my heart, as this is the location that I caught some of my very first fish as a child. My family used to spend many weekends each summer camping in the beautiful campground adjacent to the lake. I recall many wonderful memories sitting by the campfire and I also recall some very cold rainy nights. At this elevation the weather is very unpredictable.
Mill Hollow is a excellent place to bring young anglers to hook into their first fish. Traditional baits work well, as do lures and flies behind a bubble. Canoeing and kayaking are popular ways to get out onto the lake for fishing, or to just enjoy a float on the water. Other activities in the area include taking a walk around the 1-mile shore line trail to enjoy all the incredible views this lake has to offer.
The Mill Hollow Campground offers 28 family camping sites with picnic tables, campfire rings, grills, drinking water, and pit restrooms. If planning a camping trip to Mill Hollow be sure to bring containers for your food as Bears do frequent the area.
Create some of your own family memories by visiting Mill Hollow for the day or weekend and enjoy this little reservoir. Remember to be prepared for what mother nature can throw at you and you're sure to have a memorable visit to Mill Hollow Reservoir.
