Nine Mile Canyon is filled with prehistoric sites from the Fremont Culture that once called this area home. Other more modern historic sites can be seen as well such as the Harper Ghost Town.
Located approx 30.9 miles into the canyon just off the road are several run down log cabins, the only remains left from this old stage coach stop. The town of Harper once consisted of a saloon, hotel, store, post office and school. A telegraph line connected Harper to Fort Duchesne. Today Harper is posted, so please respect this private property. You can see much of what is left without leaving the main road. Take a few photos and continue on your venture. Harper is just an example of why exploring Nine Mile Canyon is so unique. You can discover prehistoric sites, Ghost towns of Utah’s early settlers, modern day ranches and current natural gas operations.
