Silver Lake is a great day hike that meanders through groves of aspens, meadows and over clear mountain streams.
To get to Silver Lake Trail take I-15 to the Alpine exit. Head East up American Fork Canyon (Uinta National Forest) until you get to the fork in the road. Take the left fork heading to Tibble Fork Reservoir.
Once at Tibble Fork take the paved road headed north. You'll know your on the right road as it winds up high in the canyon with several switch backs. This road will take you to Sliver Lake Flat Reservoir. Once at Silver Lake Flat you will find a small parking area with outhouses. The trail head is to the north of the parking lot. Hiking the Sliver Lake Trail will take you into the Loan Peak Wilderness area. The trail is 3.0 to 4.0 miles long and is well marked by the National Forest Service. The start of the trail takes you through groves of quaking aspen and mountain streams. The trail continues to climb steadily. After completing several switch backs you come to the steepest part of the trail (about 1/3 mile) then you reach the lake.
Many people talk about camping at the lake. My personal opinion, I did not find many areas to set up camp that didn't put you right on or near the trail. Remember this is a beautiful area and what you pack in please pack it out.
